Instrument Landing System: an approach and landing aid that supplies pilots with vertical and horizontal electronic guidance, making it possible to execute landings in poor visibility and adverse weather conditions. In certain special installations, guidance is provided right down to ground level on the runway, enabling suitably equipped aircraft to execute automatic or blind landings. (ICAO Cat. 1, 2 and 3.)
