Runway Safety Systems: These are safety systems that provide continuous monitoring of the runway area and the aerodrome. The purpose is to ensure that the active runway is protected against inadvertent or unauthorised entry by a landing, taxiing aircraft or vehicles, alerting the pilot via visual signals and immediately informing air traffic control in the operational room. These systems can function in all operating conditions, recording all events detected that might require any subsequent checking.
